Los Guájares

Pumped Storage Hydro Power Plant 

Recognized as a Project of European Interest

MOWE is currently operating Los Guájares Pumped Storage Hydro Power Plant with a maximum turbine cycle power of 340 MW and a maximum pumping cycle power of 404 MW. It is located in the municipality of Vélez de Benaudalla and El Pinar, Granada.

  • In April 2019, Red Eléctrica de España (REE), the Spanish TSO, awarded the point of connection  into the 220 kV substation Saleres.
  • In June 2020, the Regional Government of Andalusia granted the Project with the water concession for 75 years.
  • In November 2023 it was nominated as a project of community interest by the EU.
